Agricultural Commodities are crops and livestock that are raised and harvested to provide food and sometimes fuel.
Animal proteins, meat, poultry, pork, fish and seafood, provide excellent, high-quality protein with all of the essential amino acids our body needs, vitamins such as B12 and minerals such as iron and zinc.
Grains, cereals and seeds are small, hard, dry seeds harvested for human or animal consumption. The durability has made it well suited to industrial agriculture, since it can be mechanically harvested, transported by rail or ship, stored for long periods in silos, and milled for flour or pressed for oil. Soybeans, sorghum, wheat, corn, maize, oat, barley, quinoa, rice, lentils and cashew are some examples.
Sugar is a sweet material that consists essentially of sucrose obtained from sugarcane or sugar beets and is typically colorless or white when pure. The main functions of sugar is to give sweetness and to provide energy but it also enhances taste and aroma, increases volume through the process of fermentation, provides texture and consistency, reduces the freezing point, increases the shelf life of products and gives color to food.
Coffee is a brewed drink prepared from roasted coffee beans, the seeds of berries from certain flowering plants. From the coffee fruit, the seeds are separated to produce a stable, raw product: green coffee. The seeds are roasted, a process which transforms them into a consumable product: roasted coffee, which is ground into fine particles that are typically steeped in hot water before being filtered out, producing a cup of coffee. It is one of the most popular drinks in the world.
Cotton is a soft, fluffy staple fiber that grows in a boll, or protective case, around the seeds of the cotton plants. The plant is a shrub native to tropical and subtropical regions around the world, including the Americas, Africa, Egypt and India. The fiber is most often spun into yarn or thread and used to make a soft, breathable, and durable textile. The use of cotton for fabric is known to date to prehistoric times; fragments of cotton fabric dated to the fifth millennium BC have been found in the Indus Valley civilization.
